Retirement Villages in Victoria – Want to take a peek in some of our most famous buildings?

A great idea for retirement villages in Victoria organising an outing in their retirement villages bus, is to attend this year’s Open House Melbourne event.

This annual event, which was first held in 2008, is organised by a not for profit association. It gives people the chance to access some of the city’s most interesting buildings. And best of all, it’s free!

The dates for this year’s event are 27 and 28 July 2013. So, there’s plenty of time to organise a group from your respective retirement villages. Head into Melbourne and discover some of the city’s most architecturally interesting buildings for yourselves.

This year’s list of buildings is yet to be announced. At last year’s event, 100 buildings opened their doors to visitors (see a list of some of them below). This year, they’re promising us 111 buildings to choose from.

The Open House Melbourne website is yet to be updated for the 2013 event. However, a May launch of the up to date version of the website is promised. You can find the website at www.openhousemelbourne.org.

Alternatively, the website allows you to enter your name and email address. They will then email you with up to date information as it comes to hand.

Last year’s website listed each building individually. A link provided information on when and how to access the building. Information included public transport information and details on:

  • which part of the building was open to visitors, and
  • whether tours departed at certain times or were self-guided.

Other details available were the name of the building’s architect and the year the building was built.
